Environmental protection

We are committed to the environment - with full conviction!

As an ambitious and future-oriented company, we are aware of the importance our environment has for us and do everything we can to protect it. In addition to the promise of RoHS conformity of our products, we have been working for several years on REACh-compliant coating options for use in aviation. This is done in close cooperation with OEMs such as Airbus and in an effort to reduce the environmental impact as much as possible. In addition, our employees are constantly trained and our processes are scrutinized for sustainability.

Our projects are supported by national and international funding projects.

We are delighted that our initiative and commitment have also been recognized by official bodies. Since 2018, we have been awarded the Environmental Partnership of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.

Company structure and history

Founded in 1952 by Hamburg businessman Horst Scholz, SCHOLZ MECHANIK has been based at its current location in the south of Hamburg since 1954. The customer and the manufacture of high-precision mechanical products have been at the center of the company's activities from the very beginning.

The initially pure contract manufacturing of customer-specific products is expanded in the following years to include drill bushes and a systematic program of standard parts. In this way, by the end of the 1950s, SCHOLZ MECHANIK was able to meet the majority of the requirements of machine, tool and mold manufacturers from a single source.

The logistically optimal location at the hub of Europe and the immediate proximity to the port and airport meant that SCHOLZ MECHANIK was able to include exports in its activities at a very early stage and acquire customers worldwide. Due to rapidly increasing demand, the second location in Uelzen, 85 km south of Hamburg, is opened in 1978. Growth and constant further development in all areas, the expansion of production to include additional manufacturing processes and the constant training of junior staff and skilled workers mean that SCHOLZ MECHANIK can offer a very wide range of services and is now one of the leading companies in the production of standard and precision parts.

The Bosumpra Project

We are fully committed to supporting the Bosumpra project and would like to introduce you to Ben Addo's valuable work.
The artist Ben Addo has lived and worked in Hamburg for 25 years (including as a lecturer for the Körber Foundation and the Kulturhaus Süderelbe). Since his return to Ghana in 2011, he has dedicated himself to the Bosumpra Nature Conservation and Stone Age Village Project. In 2008, archaeological excavations by the University of Legon in his home town of Abetifi, Ghana, revealed that people lived on the Addo family's property 13,000 years ago. This inspired the artist to launch the Bosumpra project and make the site available to the public. He is working on opening an open-air museum in a rock cave where his sculptures depicting scenes from the Stone Age will be exhibited. There are also plans for an information center where the finds from the excavations can be seen. The associated rainforest, which has remained untouched until now, is severely endangered by illegal logging. The Bosumpra project offers the possibility of having this forest recognized as a nature reserve. The project will create jobs in the economically weak region. Pupils and students, as well as tourists, will have the opportunity to learn about the historical significance of the site and can find out about the protection and conservation of the rainforest and the country's biodiversity.

Review of the year 2023

At the beginning of 2023, we decided to officially open the Stone Age Park in Abetifi. There were strenuous preparations and a lot to organize. To get the greatest possible media attention, we sent an invitation to the President of Ghana. The invitation was accepted and it was confirmed that the President would open the Stone Age Park at Easter. In the following weeks we worked feverishly towards this event. Police and security forces came to inspect the site and to give us the exact schedule of the ceremony according to a strict protocol. The 17 sculptures were transported down into the valley under difficult circumstances to be placed in the cave. There they stand as illustrative material to depict scenes from the Stone Age.
The cave serves as an open-air museum and is visited by many visitors. In order to have better access to the cave, I had a 300 meter long stone staircase built in the most difficult terrain. This means that everyone can get down the mountain safely.

An access road to transport the building materials for the museum was constructed with the help of an excavator. We were then able to store almost all the materials at the construction site. To ensure security, the park is fenced in all around and has lockable entrance gates, and we started the opening day on Saturday, April 8, 2023 at 11.30 a.m. We heard the motorcade approaching, the President of Ghana got out of his limousine, accompanied by security forces, to open our Stone Age Park with a speech.
The ceremony took on a special significance due to the presence of the Head of State of Ghana and was mentioned in the media throughout the country. A lot of time passed in the following months with appointments at various authorities and ministries. I tried to get financial support for the construction of the museum. Unfortunately, apart from the interest in this project, there was no concrete help, only the assurance that as soon as state funds were available, they would be used for us. Thanks to the president's visit, I received all the necessary official papers that are important for registering and operating the park. The head of the archaeology department at the University of Ghana, Legon, assured us that he would work with us to exhibit the finds from the excavations in the museum at a later date.
To make the park more attractive to visitors, I would like to build a playground. As many school classes and families with children visit the park, it would be nice to build an adventure playground. Playgrounds are not well known in Ghana. It would therefore be a special experience for the children if there was one in the Stone Age Park. I will build the teak play equipment myself.

Review of the year 2022

The new year begins with a lot of preparations for me. The Easter Festival will take place in Abetifi this year, which means that many visitors are expected in our park. As the King of Abetifi is celebrating his 30th anniversary on the throne, many celebrities from business and politics will be attending the Easter Festival. A good opportunity for us to present the park. We will continue to decorate the park with flowers and set up seating for the festival.

Review of the year 2021

Ghana has not been spared by the coronavirus pandemic either, but due to social distancing and mask-wearing requirements, visitors have been coming to our park steadily. In the restaurant, guests can disinfect their hands and the seats are outdoors with a large distance between them. Under these conditions, smaller family celebrations were able to take place despite the pandemic. Guests have really enjoyed taking carefree walks in the park without the constant fear of coronavirus infection. One highlight of the year was a visit from a delegation of professors who came specially to visit the park.

To further develop and improve the park, I have laid out two new roads this year, at the ends of which I would like to create park entrances and parking spaces.
To provide more seating in the park, I have installed six tables and benches on the lawn. Up to 60 people can take a seat there and enjoy a picnic.
A secure fire pit was also missing. Instead, a platform was paved in the middle of which a fire can be lit. The platform can also be used as a stage. The children from the village practise their traditional dances there every weekend.
The park offers a wide range of leisure activities. Camping in the park is also possible, as sanitary facilities are available thanks to the biogas toilets. I have also installed three showers. In November, 150 people camped on the park grounds for three days.
A festival for families with children was held over Christmas, with lots of attractions such as bouncy castles. In order to equip the restaurant for larger events, the kitchen was extended into a new building.
Thanks to this help, we will be able to officially open the park at Easter 2022. Thank you very much for your support!

Review of 2019

At the beginning of the year, I visited various institutions and ministries to present my business plan for the Stone Age Park. I hoped to receive financial support from the state to build a museum and an information center. I met with great interest in my project, but unfortunately there were no funds to start building the information center. The construction of the information center requires more long-term planning and funding. The opening of the park should therefore not be postponed any longer. From February onwards, I worked on preparing the site so that the park could open at Easter 2020. The construction site for the future information center was planted with flowers, which can be removed quickly when construction starts.

The space previously kept free for this has thus been transformed into an insect garden. At the entrance to the park, we had to level an area and remove stones and roots to create a parking lot. This work took almost three months, as the grass had to be planted and many hours of work were needed to lay out the area.
In April, work began on a restaurant that was to be built on top of a viewing rock.
As always, the rule was to achieve as much as possible with as little as possible. The restaurant therefore consists of an open section covered by a round roof. The roof rests on nine pillars, which are anchored directly into the rock with an iron construction. A kitchen was added as a permanent building. A bar was built, along with tables and stools made of solid wood. A sign was affixed to a 23-metre-long wall that is visible from afar.
You can read "Abetifi Stone Age Park" from afar. The green lettering was worked into the stone wall with broken glass. A graffiti artist from Hamburg embellished the adjacent walls of the neighboring properties with his artwork. He donated his labor and the paint for the park project. A green jungle landscape was created on approx. 125 meters of raw wall surface.
The figures for the cave began to take shape. They were painted and given real hair.
The Stone Age Park is due to be inaugurated at Easter 2020. By inaugurating the park, we hope to attract interested parties who will continue to finance projects to complete the park. In addition to the major investment in the information center and an elevator for people with walking disabilities, smaller investments are also planned for completion. These include, for example, a ride-on lawnmower for maintaining the lawns and a playground.

Review of 2018

With the help and support of many friends and the company Scholz Mechanik from Hamburg, the Bosompra Stone Age Park project continued to develop successfully in 2018. In February, negotiations began with the city administration in Abetifi to remove the illegal garbage dump on our site. After many discussions, permission was finally granted to order excavators and trucks to remove the garbage that had been dumped there for years. In March, the time had finally come. We could hardly believe it, 22 trucks managed to remove the mountain of garbage in two days. Beautiful rocks were revealed and we built a stone staircase leading to the rocks.

This gave the whole park area a new look. The garbage was transported to an official garbage dump, and the residents of our area now use a container for their garbage, which is emptied regularly. This is a milestone, as the smell and pollution of the ever-growing garbage dump no longer threaten the nature reserve. The plague of mosquitoes and flies has been significantly reduced. After cleaning the rocks, we planted flowers and grass. The resulting area has become an attraction for many visitors. The city of Abetifi has covered part of the costs, demonstrating its great interest in our project. The King of Abetifi also offered his support and undertook the drilling of a well to supply the project with water.
A drilling company had to drill 100 meters deep into the rock until they hit a water vein. The aid organization Fason from Switzerland financed the construction of a public toilet on the park grounds. This includes a biogas plant that can be used for a gas generator or for cooking.
A beekeeper was given space for her beehives on the site and will be able to practise her profession in the park in future. Many workers were involved in the diverse construction work and have good job prospects for the future. Thanks to their help and support, we can look back on a very successful 2018.
